Golf Lessons

Many golfers today have spent many years looking for the most luxurious golf equipments used by professional golfers. They always observe how the best golfers in the world strike golf ball after golf ball, with laser-like precision and power. One common question most golfers have in their mind is how professional golfers can do this. What are their secrets?

Is a Golf Lesson Necessary?

The first thing a pro looks at is the way you stand to the ball. The golf swing is basically a chain of reactions, the better your stance, the easier it is to swing the club correctly. Subtle changes to the address position can have a dramatic impact on the swing and the pro will be looking at the golfers grip, posture and aim to see if there are any small changes that will help. Having a lesson is rather like someone seeing a doctor because they generally don’t feel well.. After one or two checks the doctor will mostly be interested in the life style of the patient and in many circumstances will suggest a new diet or some exercise. These are slight changes that may have a dramatic affect on the patient’s health. He certainly won’t suggest immediate open-heart surgery. Professional golfers know that a small change to your grip or stance will make significant changes to your entire game.

Don’t follow your friends when they say: “Golf Lessons are useless”.

One of the major reasons for amateur golfers not having lessons is their friends have asked advice from a pro and have not improved. But in most cases this is because the pupil has not had enough confidence to make the suggested change. ‘How can a minor alteration to the grip stop my big loop’? Then they have an opinion: ‘The Pro must be wrong, it can’t be that simple’.The pupil might try to make the change for a few rounds but soon the advice becomes buried beneath the mass of tips from the latest magazine. It’s natural, after all, how many people actually change their lifestyles after seeing the doctor.

Golf lesson makes perfect

The key factor to seeing an improvement from coaching lies in the attitude of the pupil. If they are willing to follow the suggestions made by the pro they will get the benefits. But just as in getting used to a new diet or lifestyle change there is usually a period of adjustment and the change itself takes time.

Many amateur golfers spend lots of money buying new golf equipment and very little money on golf lessons. They have the impression that the new equipment will improve their golf and take their game to a whole new level. This is one of the reasons why amateurs never seem to get better. Here is why you should invest in golf lessons.

New golf equipment is very nice to have and the improvements in technology do help you to play better, but only to a certain extent.

The clubs are only the tool golfers use to play golf. The method or skill behind using the clubs effectively are entirely dependant on the golfer’s ability.

So why is it that many golfers buy new clubs rather than invest in golf lessons? I’ll tell you why. It all comes down to image. If you are seen with the latest and best golf clubs, most people assume you to be quite a good player because you look the part. That is until you swing the club. Then the truth comes out and you turn out not to be as good as you appeared to be.

This is a problem. I’m not saying don’t buy new golf clubs. Of course you must try have the best equipment available. All I am saying is that you should consider taking some lessons to get the maximum benefit and satisfaction from your clubs.

There are many different lessons you can have. They range from personal one-on-one lessons with a recognised teaching PGA Pro, or buying books and dvds that explain graphically how to play better golf.

PGA Pro’s are wonderful coaches to have as they are all pretty good players and will help you to correct your swing to play better. The only problem is that they cost a lot of money to hire and are not always available when you need them.

Instructional books and dvds are the next best thing to have. The benefits of having them are as follows. You buy them once off, they don’t cost a fortune, they provide great step-by-step instruction and are available for you to refer to whenever you need them. There are many excellent golf instructional dvds and e-books on the market today that can potentially teach you a lot more about he game of golf than any PGA Pro could and these books and dvds cover a wide range of topics to do with golf improvement.

So here is a a tip for all amateur golfers who wish to improve their game the cost effective way. Buy golf instructional dvds, e-books and training aids and after watching or reading them practice what they teach at a driving range. If you still struggle with a particular aspect of your game after that, then go visit you local PGA Pro for additional help.

As a golfer, it is important to learn all the aspects of the ball, and therefore one can manipulate it in order to receive the results that are desired. Golf is a cause and effect sport. There are certain special shots that golfers use in compromising situations such as the hook and the draw, which can be used in the bunkers or fairways. These are shots where the golfer does everything the same way except that they switch up the angle slightly and also alter the distance between the legs to a certain direction, depending on their handedness. The draw, or sometimes called by other people as hook, starts right and then curves left. It is supposed to be used when a direct shot at your target is blocked. Usually, regular golfers find themselves at a crossroads whrn they are in such a situation, This shot is one of the many shots that separate the amateur golfers from the professionals. The most experienced golfers that are usually at the PGA level are able to hit this shot when put in the certain predicament. For example, this shot may need to be used on a dogleg hole or if one needs to curve a shot around some trees that are in the way. The draw is more of a subtle curve than the hook, which often end up in the rough. Usually when one calculates their risk and sees that it may be better to play their game form the rough than where they are currently. Ultimately the best way to understand what is happening with your golf swing, the cause, is to understand what your ball flight is telling you, which is the effect. Once, full understanding has been applied, one is able to work with the ball in order to produce desirable effects and certain strokes depending on the distance. Basically there are nine variations of ball flight. The three trajectories are low, medium, and high. Then the next are the ball flights. The ball flights are left to right, straight, and right to left. Ultimately the cause of these ball flights is determined by what the club face is doing when it comes into contact with the ball. This is why there are many different golf clubs and they are used depending on the desired distance that the golfer wishes to achieve. This is called the impact position, the most important thing for you to consider when swinging a golf club. The reason is due to the fact that it does not matter what you look like or what positions the club takes away from and back to the ball. If the club face is square to the target line and coming into the ball on the right angle of approach at impact, the ball will fly straight with the optimal trajectory. When one has fully attained a grasp about the properties of a golf ball and its aerodynamic effects then they will be better prepared to take their game to the next level.

The best golfers that consistently put the ball into the green are the ones who know how to hit balls an approximate distance. Most amateur golfers may attempt to pitch the ball thirty yards, but find out that it goes sixty yards, and vice versa. Some people call this chip shot a pitch and it also covers the awkward partial shot. This happens in a lot of sports where one may need a certain amount to keep their game in control. Sports in general, are based all upon approximation. In football, the quarterback has to know how to throw the ball in order to just hit the receiver and just him. The kickers have to know how much leg to put into a field goal depending on the distance. In baseball, first basemen have to know how much power that they have to put into a throw from first to third. A right fielder will definitely have to put more power into a throw than a second baseman making a relay throw to first. These analogies to other sports are accurate because it is all based upon approximation. The first step into knowing how much power to put in a golf swing one must follow a set of rules. The first step is to determine how far they want the ball to fly in the air and how far one must want it to roll once it hits the ground. The second step is to imagine the increments. One must have a mental tape measure in their mind in order to approximate the required distance. One can go ahead and picture a football field because that is a field with standard increments. Then one must determine how high you want the ball to fly. Sometimes, golfers want the ball to travel over a bush or sand hill and this would take a slight angle to accomplish the feat. The more accomplished the golfer, the higher risks they can take. The better golfers can allow the ball to travel over a tree or a bush. Though very rare and hard, it can be done and PGA level golfers such as Tiger Woods can do this on a regular basis. The next part is a little complicated. First, one must choose a club with a loft that will get you over the obstruction. Then after this one can worry about the distance next. During practice, simulate various ball flights and trajectories that may arise during the round. The next step is to take the club back a measured distance for each length of shot. For example, with a lob wedge, one may take the club back half the way for a thirty yard shot, and seventy five percent back for a 50 yard shot. Then after this, one must practice with their own clubs to determine which club to use various distances and heights and amount of roll. The key to this feat is approximation, and the ones that have the skills to match are the ones that can pull the feat off repeatedly.

The best golfers have an all around game and they know how to hit a variety of shots. One of the most crucial parts of any established golfer’s game is the ability to hit a draw. The draw is often dubbed as the most powerful shot in golf. The draw, or sometimes called by other people as hook, starts right and then curves left. It is supposed to be used when a direct shot at your target is blocked. Usually, regular golfers find themselves at a crossroads when they are in such a situation, This shot is one of the many shots that separate the amateur golfers from the professionals. Usually, only the best golfers do this and they have a reason as this is a deliberate and calculated risk. When this shot is executed correctly, the draw will start off pretty straight and then gradually start to fall of to the left. Golfers that also want the ball to give the ball a forward spin will do this, whatever their reason for such a ball may be. Not only will the ball have a forward spin but it will travel much further than the regular ball because when it initially lands it puts a forward spin on the ball. The draw is a shot that may be easier for people who are right handed dominant to pull off because the shot is taught from that approach rather than a left handed approach. To pull of this shot, one must first set up their golf shot with their usual alignment and grip. Then they must adjust their feet to aim to the right of their target. The angle of the person’s feet will depend on their normal golf swing and desired results, and can range from 5 to 45 degrees. The only aberration between this and a regular swing is that one must start ten to fifteen degrees to the right to start. For left handed people, it is the same from a left handed perspective. Then the next step is to aim the club face at your target directly and use your normal grip. Then one should swing normally, from the beginning of the swing to the follow through. This is one of the tactics that can transform a middle of the road golfer into an upper echelon golfer. Not all golfers can full claim this trait to their attributes so a golfer with this shot has a distinct advantage.

In the sport of golf, a driving range is an area where golfers, both amateur and professional, can practice their swing. It can also be a recreational activity itself for amateur golfers or when enough time for a full game is not available. A driving range is the equivalent of other sports’ training area. In most sports, there always seems to be certain areas designated for practice and preparation for a real game of golf. In baseball, there are areas designated for practice such as the bullpen for pitchers or the batting cage for hitters. Before a basketball game, players have shooting session and many professional teams have a practice facility. The same thing goes with football. Teams have a practice field which is similar to the playing field but not in the same playing condition. They can be found in many places, the driving range can. There are some at many campuses in the United States, such as a state of the art driving range area at the University of Washington. This certain driving range has 45 tees, twenty of them which are covered. Many of the golf course have a driving range attached and they can e found at stand alone facilities, especially in the urban areas more than the rural areas. They are typically run by businesses or sometimes by universities. Distances are usually marked by target greens at regular distances. Driving ranges may have natural grass, similar to a golf course, or players may have to use synthetic mats that resemble real turf. Using a driving range is pretty simple. First one has to arrive at the facility with their gear and neccesary equipment. Golfers usually pay for a larget bucket containing balls from anywhere from 30 to up to 200 balls and they hit at their leisure. This is a good place to get help and tips from golf professionals, who are usually here and available to give lessons and instruction. The balls are usually retrieved by a specialty cart with a brush and a roller attchment that automatially picks up balls and a cage that protects the driver from incoming balls. Amercians enjoy these driving ranges and there are so many of them located and there is probably one near you somewhere. In accordance to a basic rule of economics, when supply is high, the price will not be too high as the item is elastic so it can always be replaced. A customer at a driving range that becomes upset or disgruntled can always transfer membership to a university or a golf course that has one. Driving ranges are very popular in Japan where golf courses are regularly overcrowded and also very expensive. As previously implied, many commercial driving ranges are seen in conjunction with other sports related practice areas such as batting cages or miniature golf. Therefore, any persons looking to improve their golf game should make it to a nearby driving range and seek help from a professional. These are the ultimate places to practice.

For amateur golfers, having an “open” tournament is a great opportunity to break into the world of professional golf. But the U.S. Open isn’t the only open tournament – there’s also the British Open for the golfers “across the pond”. Open tournaments were designed to allow amateur golfers to perhaps break into the pro pool by winning one of these contests.

Many people think that the U.S. Open was the first open championship to be founded, but that just isn’t true. The British Open was being played 35 years before the United States got in on the open tournament phenomenon. Since the turn of the century, the British Open has included amateurs from all countries. The U.S. Open is currently trying to make a move towards this trend, but for years, The British Open has been known as “The World Open”.

Originally designed as a way for unknown golfers to make a name for themselves, the “opens” have long been touted as the greatest chance an amateur has for worldwide fame and fortune as a professional golfer. The British Open was the first tournament to bring forth this amazing idea, and golfers all over the world became excited at the prospect of becoming a pro.

The British Open is one of the four major golf tournaments of the year and winning it is a great honor. Just as with the U.S. Open, it is one of the championships that tournament professionals strive to achieve and wear the honor with pride. However, amateurs should beware. Because the British Open is an open event, the pros can play too.

The last time an amateur won a British Open was back in 1930 when American legend Bobby Jones won with an overall score of 291. Since that time, there have been many amateurs who have made good showings, but as far as winning the open, that hasn’t happened in quite some time.

To qualify for the British Open, you must strive for one of the 156 places that are available. Most of the field of players has achieved entry into the open through exemptions by playing well throughout the year on the tour. The rest of the field has won qualifying rounds in local events that lead them to the “big show” and perhaps the chance of the lifetime!

The British Open – just like the U.S. Open – is a wonderful way for excellent amateur golfers to break into the professional circuit by doing what they love – playing the game of golf. The British Open has a long and storied history and while considered one of the major events in the PGA, still holds a bit of mystery and hope for those who dream of a life as a PGA professional.
